I have got a new FPD2185W LCD monitor from Gateway.

It does not come with a DVI cable. So, I have been using a VGA cable for the last few days.

I ordered this from ebay. I received it today.

When I hook it up and turn on the PC, I get a green screen! Something is obviously wrong.

My graphics card is BFG 6800OC.

What is the problem? Is it the cheap cable?

Yeah, I know!

I just don't want to get another cable and later find out that the problem is really somewhere else!

Is a dual link cable the right cable to get? Is my graphics card capable of driving this monitor at its native resolution (1680X1050)? Could it be that something is wrong with the monitor? .........

Yes it was and I even tightened the two screws on each end. I will try again.

I guess the imbecile on eBay must have sent you one with bad red and blue pins. What a pain...

It was the cable!

I got this from RadioSchack and everything looks good.

Now, this is a single-link cable.
When will I need a dual-link one?
For what application will a single-link cable become the bottleneck?

You'll need a dual-link cable when your display requires it. Up to 1920x1200, everything is single-link.
