Hi,
I recently replaced a dying DVD burner with a new SONY NEC Optiarc. It reads and burns CDs just fine - and plays new and burned DVDs just fine, but when I put a blank DVD in for burning it doesnt read it as a burnable DVD and thus I cant burn 'em. Ideas? Is there something I have to do to this DVD burner before it can recognize blank DVDs.

Another factor is that I currently live in Argentina and bought the burner in the US. Could there be a compatability issue between the blank DVDs I buy here and the what the DVD burner can read?

Thanks!
Joe

There is no country compatibility issue for burning DVD. But it is usual that writers don't work well with some media. You should try a different brand of disks, preferably good quality ones (Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim). Which are you using now?

Oops. Title should be "problem with new DVD burner".

You can use the edit function to correct this.

Normally I wouldn't recommend SONY, but their media, both CD's and DVD's are best, IMHO.

Aight....I tried IPC (DVD+R and DVD-R) and TDK (DVD+R and DVD-R)...could there be anything else besides a media compatibility problem?
This drive won the Newegg Customer Choice award...it cant be that bad.
