Problem with new Dell 2001fp

mb

So I got a 2001fp yesterday, and set it up with DVI to my 6800. It worked perfectly until this morning, when the screen just went blank and there was nothing I could do to get an image. For a while, when I would turn it on it wouldn't even display the Dell Ultrasharp logo, but it does now, but then it only shows the self test for like 1 second before it goes black again.. and with a cable plugged in, it will display the image for less than a second and go blank. I've let it sit for a few hours before trying again, and its still the same thing, and it doesn't seem to matter wheter I use DVI or analog...

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

You neeed to verify that it isn't your video card. Check the analog with your old monitor. If it doesn't happen with the crt, then its your monitor.

I've tried DVI & analog with my old LCD, both work ok on that one, and both did work on the Dell until it blacked out. The monitor is powered up and the green light is on...

hmm i was about to say that it may be going into sleep mode/eco mode prematurely, but you say the screen blacks out even when the led is green? somethign definately wrong with the monitor then.

nVidia and EDID strike again. I posted a fix several months ago when I revived DVI on one of my 1800FPs. It'll likely be an EDID problem if analog mode works fine.

hook your video card up to the vga input of the monitor...

switch the monitor input to vga input

if you see a image..the problem is the interaction of your video card (DVI output) with the monitor.
this issue can be resolved (usually). search the Dell user forums, you will probably find the details on how to fix it.
alternatively, visit the forum of faqs site for your video card manufacturer and you may find the solution.
typically has something to do with resetting the videio card to allow non-standard refresh rates to be utilized.

As I said, neither DVI nor analog work.. guess ya must have missed that... oh well we all read too fast sometimes. Anywho, Dell is sending me a new monitor. I had even tried resetting the EDID many times and it still wouldn't display video. I hope I don't have any problems with my new one, because until this one blacked out, it was perfect - no dead pixels or anything... so I'm a bit worried now. I guess a dead pixel or two is better than a screen w/ no video.
