Problem with new build

Hello All,

I just put together a new PC build for my brother. Everything seemed to be fine but now, the computer will randomly turn off at night.

After it turns off, we cannot get it to turn back on right away. If you leave it for a day or two it will turn back on.

Any ideas on where to start trouble-shooting this?

Thanks

I wouldn't RMA anything until I was sure it's the problem.

Or at least had some kind of evidence. In some cases companies won't give you an RMA unless you can convince them that you've done some troubleshooting.

The PSU and motherboard are the two most likely culprits.

Have you tried using the computer with a different power strip or outlet?

Try testing the machine with a different PSU if possible.

Try testing the machine with different RAM. (I say this before the motherboard only because it's much faster.)

Try testing the machine with only the bare essentials sitting outside the case on a non-conductive surface.

Try testing the machine with a different motherboard if you can.

I will try some of these. The problem is that it does not happen all the time. Might not happen for days.

Have you checked to see if the BIOS is the latest or whether or not there is a known bug with this with the BIOS? Also make sure its not going into hibernate. You could be seeing an issue where it can't load up from hibernate and just waiting till enough time has passed for it to decide to do a normal bootup. I see this on laptops a lot. If it is you can trick it to going straight to normal boot by powering of the power supply, clearing the capacitor power by hitting the power button, and then turning on the power supply and booting the system.

Thanks. I'll check that out to.
