Problem with new build

About two weeks ago I purchased a new mobo and set of SATA drives for my home setup. I encountered no problems with the installation of XP and was up and running without a hitch.

My setup then consisted of a P4 2.4 800FSB CPU, ASUS P4P800SE mobo, 1GB of Crucial PC3200 DDR ram, Antec 400W PSU, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro video card and the two WD SATA 7200RPM HDs on RAID 0 config.

This system ran great and I never experienced any issues within these past two weeks.

Two days ago I received my new Radeon X850XTPE (w/ the Arctic Cooler Silencer 5 Rev 2 gpu cooler), P4 3.2 800 FSB Northwood CPU and ENERMAX ATX12V 600W Power Supply.

Problem #1: When taking off the CPU heatsink, the CPU itself came off with it. WTF? I had to pry the CPU off the heatsink with a flathead. Too much paste maybe? Oops! The prongs were bent to hell and wouldnt fit back on the mobo. I had to use a small steak knife to bend the prongs back in place. I placed it back in the mobo with the heatsink and started the pc up. No problems.. few!

I took it off again and this time it did not stick. I then proceded in replacing it with the new CPU, PSU and Video Card. This is when problem #2 occured:

I couldn't get Windows XP to run. The pc would reboot right after the Win XP logo appears during startup. The same thing would happen if I tried safe mode (I was able to get it loaded a few times, only to have the PC lock up on me after a few seconds). I did not uninstall my video drivers before installing the new card. I didn't think it mattered, as both cards require the same drivers (I think?). That could of been my problem, i'm not sure. But if it were, I should be able to load safe mode atleast right? I was up all night trying different ideas, swaping old parts with new parts, with no prevail. After numerous hours of failed attempts and my mind set on software conflicts, I decided to reinstall windows. Once I reformated the drives (using the winxp disc) and got to the copying of installation files process, the pc would reboot. This continued to happen, each time at a different completion precentage. It would vary from 7% to roughly 15%. I tried a different cdrom and winxp disc, but no luck. I tried disabling the RAID controller and used one SATA HD, but no luck. I even tried using a old Ultra ATA HD and still got the same problem.

Everything is idling nice and cool. Both my CPU and MB are around 30 degrees C.

I have no idea what the problem is. My only guess is the mobo. It is the only item I did not swap during this whole disaster. Could my hardware not be compatible?

I spent alot of money, I gotta get this damn thing up and running. :/

Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks

Hummm....according to the newegg link:

Voltage 1.25-1.4V

Ahhh...that's the voltage for a Prescot. This is a 0.13µ CPU, being a Northwood, and it should be at 1.5V. Did you check your voltage in BIOS? It should have been the same as the 2.4C you had in there, but you should check. I'd try bumping it to 1.55V to see if that helps.

That's odd... any idea why that is? I will take a look at the voltages when I get home tonight. I hope it's as easy as that.. :)
