problem with network settings in xp pro

I cant seem to figure out why my computer wont connect to my router (which also connects me to dsl). It was working fine about a month ago (I was out of town for a month so really thats like last week) but now I can't seem to make it work right. Its not the router since my other computers connect fine. Basically what happens is that I boot up and I check network connections and itll tell me Im connected to LAN and I even have the right IP addresses (gateway:192.168.2.1 ip:192.168.2.29) but then if I try to actually send or recieve information, nothing happens (pinging the gateway also does not work). I also tried connecting my computer directly to dsl, bypassing the router. The same thing happened. It actually verified my username and password (and rejected wrong ones) but after I got connected, I still couldnt actually transfer information. I am running a linksys LNE100tx and it says v4.1 on the card. I tried reinstalling the drivers both from the ones xp provides and linksys' drivers. Oddly enough, linksys doesnt seem to have xp drivers for my card so I just installed the 2000 drivers. Basically regardless of what I do though, the same thing always happens where no information gets sent except apparently that necessary to connect. Does anyone know whats happening here?

I encountered a somewhat similar issue trying to set up ICS on my father's DSL line - correct connection and info, but no data transmission otherwise. Tracked the problem to a PPPoE incompatibility, and later got a router to fix it. At any rate, it sounds like a PPPoE problem, whether on your end or theirs. Definitely call tech support - you might be able to fix it by puttering, but it will be faster to talk to a technician familiar with your ISP's configuration.

If other computer on the same private network funtion perfectly, and you is not mean that your computer is the problem. Chech your IP setting, ping 127.0.0.1 check your network card, ping your gateway & peers computer on the same network.

If pinging 127.0.0.1 work, but ping the gateway & peers doesn't work, then it could be that your network cable is bad or is a cross over, or the port on the nic card is bad, or the port in the router is bad.

Check the link lights on the nic & router, plugin a known good cable and plug it into a different port. Could also try install a new know good nic card.
