Problem with network printing between 2KPro and 98SE..

Hello. At home here I have a Win98SE computer in the basement with an HP DJ 870Cse printer attached to it. Upstairs I have a Win2KPro machine I would like to use the printer. I got the network printer installed ok on the Win2KPro machine with the built-in 870Cse drivers. But whenever I try to print from Word 2000 I get these damned lines on the page and overall it's screwed up. I just printed from Notepad on the 2KPro machine just fine. Any ideas why Word is screwed up? Word works fine on the 98SE machine that has the printer attached.

On another topic, why does Windows networking suck so bad? I'm using freakin' NetBEUI because none of the computers would see any of the other ones with TCP/IP.

it sounds like the "built-in" driver has an issue, try looking for a new printer driver for W2K on hp.com

were you trying static IP addresses? or APIPA ?

tcp/ip can be tricky sometimes, there really isn't anything wrong with using netbeui for LAN stuff, but if you want to use a LAN internet connection, then you gotta work out the TCP/IP bugs

good luck!

Yep, it is the built-in driver. I hooked the printer up directly to the Win2KPro machine and had the same problems. Luckily it only seems to do the lines when printing color in Word. B&W seems to be ok. And the stupid HP site doesn't even have Win2KPro drivers for the 870Cse...it just says to use the built-in ones! :| Oh well, thanks for the tips.
