Problem with NEC DVD-RW Drive

I have a NEC DVD burner that I had left over from an old E-Machines computer. I recently built a new machine and after getting it nearly complete I went to put in the drive, however, it wouldn't even slide completely into the bay, creating a gap that wouldn't allow the case door to shut. I thought okay, let me just see if it works. So, I booted up after connecting the 4-Pin adapater and IDE cables and to no avail, the drive does not show up in the BIOS nor does it even seem to be recieving any power? I couldn't even open the drive to place in the Windows XP install disc.

This is only my second build, so I'm really lost here... I've tried using all the left over 4-Pin adapaters and a spare IDE cable and still nothing.

Check jumper on the back of optical drives. Use Master/Slave if you have two drives. Otherwise, connect drive as MASTER. Reset BIOS. Reboot to windows and remove both IDE channels from DEVICE MANAGER. Go back to BIOS and verify that the drive is detected. Make sure you set the detection mode to AUTO. Save and reboot to windows.
