Before installing the Radeon X1800 XT I uninstalled the ATI drivers. I restarted to safe mode, used driver cleaner and erase all ATI files on my machine.

Every time I install the catalyst drivers, windows shows me the ?new hardware fond? window!!! And then I see the unknown yellow icon in my device manager?? But I do have both dispaly adapters "Radeon X1800 Series" and "secondary"! Is my X1800XT defected? I just got it. :(

Mine did the same thing when I installed the 1800XL. I had the little yellow icon in my device manager too. I just disabled it..lol..been that way for 6 months and everything has been solid thus far.

Man that sucks! So I should just disable it then. What the hell is wrong with ATI? :|

Did you install the WDM drivers? If you did not, then that's probably the reason an unknown device keeps showing up. Those drivers are for the VIVO functionality.

I get the same thing and just disabled the two extra "unknown devices" when I set everything up. I have been sticking with the "dialup" driver only packages, if that makes any difference.

For some reason, that happened when I downloaded the 5.7 Catalyst drivers for my 8500DV. But all the other drivers were all right. I guess maybe its just the drivers itself.

However, I did install the WDM drivers. And it was still there.

Alright, try this:
1.) Uninstall old drivers using Device manager
2.) Reboot into safe mode (F8) and open up Driver Cleaner Pro
3.) Run the ATI setting, and the ATI CCC one too.
4.) Run the CAB cleaner for both the drivers.cab and sp2.cab (might take a little bit)
5.) Make sure it doesn't say X1800XT in device manager (if so, right click, uninstall then do Driver Cleaner Pro again but this time Windows won't install the drivers because of cab cleaner)
6.) Reboot and try out these drivers instead:

Maby that'll do it for ya.

And don't forget to use Bleech

wizboy11 pretty much nailed how to nuke existing drivers and rebuild the the cyber Hiroshima. (That was not meant to be an offensive comment, so please take it lightly)

I get that too - I think it's the Rage Theater/AVIVO chip. The WDM drivers should fix it but I never bother installing them so I just disable it from the Device Manager.
