Problem with my ping in games

Hi guys,
I installed WinXP a while ago and all of a sudden, when I played Red Alert 2, my pings were constantly at 1000ms. Normally, before, when I had Win2000, I used to get around 150ms. So now I'm a little confused about this. Can someone try to help me find out what is the problem.
 
I think AMDPwred was suggesting you post your query in the Operating Systems forum.

Don't really know what to say - have you checked you have the correct network protocols installed? Have you checked for the latest drivers for your modem?
