problem with my motherboard

i've a problem with my motherboard from my second computer
the first onboard ide controller will not detect nothin but when i put the
harddrive in the second controller it detects it but than windows freezes up
can anyone help me out here i am kinda stuck with my clues here

What motherboard do you have?
When does it freeze up? loading or within Windows?
What version of Windows are you running?
Have you done any testing on the hard drive to make sure it is not at fault?
