Problem with my laptops PCMCIA slot

I have a gateway solo 2200 with a problem

i purchased 3 different intel ethernet modems.

when i plug them in nothing happens, the system does not recognize them or do anything, when i pop in a us robotics 56k modem that came along with it, it recognizes it fine. What might be the problem?

All PCMCIA slot cards are not equal. If your Gateway had Cardbud, then only cardbus devices will work. If it has Sockets/Services, then Cardbus won't work. How old is the 2200?

There are typeI/typeII/typeIII devices as well as different bit-width cardbus adapters, so it is likely the Gateway only takes one of the older ones... you might want to check just to make sure if it's compatible.

it says its compatible with type II and III, however the intel is a cardbus II, i think this is why it is not functioning properly.
