I have a out of warranty HL-L2380DW laser printer and it has an unusual problem that could not be fixed after using Brother online chat to troubleshoot my problem so asking here for help.

The printer needs to stay running 7/24 to avoid the problem that once printer is off awhile the printer wont power up using the power switch.

If I unplug the printer for a min it will then power back up when I resupply power.

I am going to post the troubleshooting site that Brother has on this printer for reference.

If I cant get this fixed myself I had some questions about

1. Wont this printer cause unable to detect fumes that be harmful to me if its always running?

2. as I am posting this I also wanted to know I have this now network wired to my system but I think printer be more useful using WiFi connection so I can print to it directly with all my capable devices right?

1. Laser printers won't cause harm by just sitting and running.

2. I prefer wired for my printers. If all the devices are on the same network (typical for home networks) then wireless devices can talk to it just fine.

You can always just put it on it's own switchable power strip and turn it on and off with that switch...

But that aside, I've never heard of laser printers emitting "undetectable" fumes at all. As far as I know/have ever seen/heard, the only potentially harmful gas they ever emit - and that only when actually printing - is ozone, which (a) isn't really very "harmful" in the conversational sense of that word, and (b) can be smelled long before it builds up enough to do you any acute harm... And in any event, assuming the printer can go into low-power mode and "wake up" from that OK, the only downside to leaving it on 24/7 is the cost of whatever minimal amount of electricity it uses when in low-power mode, and the very slight additional (probably theoretical) "wear and tear" from staying a little (but not all that much) warmer than when it's completely turned off.

Thanks for the info I see that there a house looking icon on the panel that is slowly flashing now that I decided to leave printer always on guessing that is indicating that the printer is sleeping and the printer when not being used is sleeping mode so I dont expect it will consume much electricity which thankfully for me is included in my rent and I dont even see my electric bills these days.

Glad no large amount of harmful things are being emitted from printer as I am a big worrier about getting in contact with any harmful chemicals.

I always prefer wired over wireless so I will leave my current wired setup I been using.

I wont bother with using another power switch as its quite preferable to have my printer always ready for printing rebooting it as needed seems to increase for me these days.
