i just picked up a gateway dl36 36" crt monitor for dirt cheap. guy had it in his basement, didnt know if it worked or not, i gave him $15 and took it.

i pluged a computer into it and everything seams to work fine, but....when i first turn on the computer, while it is starting up when it is still in DOS before it gets to windows, instead of a black screen with white lettering, i have a green screen with white lettering. when i get to windows, everything looks normal. color is fine. i tried to play a movie and it also looked good, until it came to a scene indoors where there are shadows, now it had a slight green hue on the screen. it seams as if the monitor can not see black, or shaded areas. normal operations work just fine, along with normal screens and colors, but when i get to a blakc screen such as my screen saver, its green.

another test i did was i plugged my old dream cast in (its the only other thing i have with a vga adapter) and played a game of tony hawk. as i suspected before, when my character was out in the open everything looked great, but once i entered a shaded area like behind a building, or under a stair case, i got a slight green hue over the screen.

has anyone here ever owned one of these monitors? is this a sign of it going bad? is it something that can be fixed? it still works pretty well and im sure i can sell it for more than i paid for, but id jsut like some info on this. thanks.

Are you using a 15pin (both ends) VGA cable?
Are any of the pins bent (most notably pins 5 or 15)?

The only other reason would be Cold Solder joints on the circuit
board that attaches to the CRT filament.

i just checked my VGA cable. on each end there is no pin 5, there is just a hole there.

if it turns out to be cold solder joints, im asuming that its just gone and no point in repairing?

Do you know if that is the original cable or not?

If it is cold solder joints, it would depend on your knowledge and abilities
with a soldering pencil & electronics.
