problem with my DVD player on my notebook

I have had my Dell Notebook for about 2 years, the DVD player has basically stopped working it is reading the disc at only 1x, offhand i forget what speed it should be running, but i know its more then that (i am at work right now so dont have the info in front of me)

it also has trouble reading CDs at normal speed, if I try and watch a movie it will play well for sometimes up to 30 minutes to an hour, then it will constantly freeze making it unwatchable.

the rubber feet on the bottom of the notebook have fallen off, so I am wondering if it might be that the dvd/cd's are not spinning completely flat and that is the problem, but I am not sure

Anyone have any suggestions on things that might be causing this

a while ago I ran a program that tested it, thats how i know it is only reading at around 1x
