Problem with my computer hardware

I have AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with MSI K8N Neo2 platinum and Corsair 256 MB DDR PC 3200 CL 2.5 also I use ATI Radeon 9700Pro for my graphic card. Everything works well except one thing. It always fails to read IDE drives (DVD drive and Hard drive) at the time I turn it on after I left it for a month or two. I have to disconnect and reconnect the IDE cables several times until it recognizes the drives.

Last time I have to change my DVD and Hard drive, because they cannot be assessed anymore, even with another computer. Now even with the new ones, the problem still occurs. I am afraid that one day I have to change the drive again.

Does anyone know what happened with the computer?
Any advices will be highly appreciated.

Sounds like the IDE controller on your motherboard is killing your drives. Or the power supply could be messing them up. What kind of power supply do you have?

I don?t know if this can cause the problem. I use the generic one, 350 watt.
Could you please tell me more about the PSU. that can mess the drives? or what should i do with that one?

Best regards,

Ds.

yeah, a generic 350w PSU could definatly be the problem. The psu is what supplies the voltages to the hard drive..too much or too little power can damage the drive..try booting up with the DVD drive unplugged. If it comes up with out problems several times, plug the DVD drive back in. If the problem comes back, then I can almost gurantee it's your generic PSU causing the problem..
