Problem with my co-worker's laptop...won't boot up

My co-worker is having problems booting her laptop. You turn the computer on, enter the BIOS password (not why she put on on), but it never even begins to load Windows. You get blank screen that doesn't go away.

Eventually an odd symbol (looks sort of like the left half of a capital "T" if you cut it right down the middle) appears.

Any ideas? She's got v1.00 of the BIOS on her computer, I don't think she really puts a ton of junk on it.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode? Maybe it has a driver issue.

You also might want to try running Hitachi Disk Fitness test (DFT) to see if the hard drive is going bad and corrupted some Windows system files.
