Problem with my case fan (and maybe the motherboard)

hi guys, im new around here 🙂 i got a prob:

I own HAF 932 and my mother board is: GA-EX58-UD4P
HAF 932 has 4 stock fans and i connected them to:
1. The top fan to the PWR FAN
2. The front fan to SYS FAN 2
3. The rear fan to NB FAN
4. The side fan to SYS FAN 1
i also have 2 fans on my Thor's Hammer (1 is connected to the CPU FAN and the other to the SYS FAN 3)

now i have 2 problems:

1. The first prob is that the front fan is running at ~ 300 RPM (It should be running @ ~700 RPM..). I tried connecting it to the SYS FAN 1 and it was showing ~700 RPM.. i have no idea whats wrong, I couldn't find any setting in the bios that has to do with it :\
2. The second prob is that i only see 4 fans @ the bios.. i mean i only see:
* CPU FAN
* SYS FAN 1
* SYS FAN 2
* PWR FAN

I don't see SYS FAN 3 no NB FAN... I dont know why, but I don't see
it in seedfan as well

Actully, about Speedfan.. Something is kinda strange for me there:

speedfanl.png

(Link if u don't see: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7300/speedfanl.png)

As you can see, It shows 5 fans but the 5th is at 0 RPM..
Plus I tried to mess around with the speeds (bot min and max speed) and it didn't have any effect on the fans... they all were still running at the same speeds..

Any1 has any idea about any of my problems?
tnx a lot 🙂

1. The top fan to the PWR FAN
Change this out so that your PSU fan is connected here.

3. The rear fan to NB FAN
Change this out so that your Northbridge fan is connected here.

You will likely find that two fans will not provide appreciable cooling performance over one fan. Remove the "pull" fan, be sure the "push" fan is in the CPU header, and re-purpose the SYS FAN header.

Speedfan will not allow you to control fan speeds: http://www.almico.com/foruminfo.php?id=7421795

Now you have a start for troubleshooting and figuring out fan speed reports.

My PSU fan is not connected to the motherboard, I don't think i can connect it to there.. Its inside the PSU.

I dont have any Northbridge fan.

According to a lot of reviews, Thor's hammer works the best with 2 fans.
The "Push" fan is the one that is connected to the CPU FAN.
I don't understand what you said i should do with the SYS FAN header...
SYSFAN1 is connected to the side fan which is on the "door" so it will be the easiest to remove when I want to open the case.

That sucks :\ tnx for the info 🙂

As I said, I have no idea why..
I did find this while googling:
The System fan 2 header (SYS_FAN2) on my EP45-UD3P motherboard seems to be controlled by the temperature around the Southbridge. Heat seems to rarely be a problem in that location for my motherboard. With that in mind, any fan attached to it would never or at least rarely get to a temperature high enough to be spinning at full speed (or even half speed) unlike the CPU header.
I didn't find any way to disable it in the bios... I could only disable the smart fan control on the CPU FAN..

I also found this:
Unfortunately if the X58 is anything like my UD3P, the second PWM header is limited to a stupidly low 5V. The only other headers capable of giving 12V are both 3 pin.
None of my fans are PWM fans but SYSFAN2 does have 4 pins... Though only 3 pins are connected to the fan ofc..

I found it here:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/can-cpu_fan-header-ex58-handle-3-fans-34197/
(both the first and second pages..)
I don't know if it's true or false, any1 here has any insight on the matter?

Anyway so all the HAF 932 owners connects all their fans directly to the PSU??

tnx!

Most decent-quality units have a connector. Look at the braids coming out of the PSU, or check your manual. This is why most mobos have a PWR FAN header...it's for that fan-speed connector from the PSU.

I dont have any Northbridge fan.
If you were to get one, that is what the header is to be used for. I could be wrong, but I don't think you should be connecting a massively larger fan to this header.

Two 38-mm fans, unfortunately, do not provide the anticipated temperature drop and big increase in the maximum CPU frequency during overclocking.
However, you could save some decibels by using two fans, and getting the same cooling perf. Otherwise, most reviews of dual-fan coolers that I have read also have stated that dual-fans don't offer that much more of an advantage than a single fan.

I was talking about SYS FAN3 (connected for the 'hammer). Re-purpose that for a case fan.

Ok, I'll check that. Tnx 🙂

I don't know about that. The manual didn't say a thing about it..

Well, 2 fans does give a better results as seen there... Sure its not much but I prefer using 2 fans.

Then where should I put the second Thor's hammer's fan?
And what about the info I found on SYS_FAN2?

So where should I put all my fans? Haf 932 has 4 stock fans and i added 1 more to the bottom (I did connect it directly to the PSU since i didn't have anymore fan connections on my motherboard...)

Then where should I put the second Thor's hammer's fan?
In a drawer. Garage sale, ebay, whatever. Will it give you a better advantage than hooking up all of your case fans to headers, and/or achieving best airflow? No. That case was built for cooling, you can strip fans and still be good.

And what about the info I found on SYS_FAN2?
Read part of it, and not gonna read thru all the rest of that crap. It's primarily opinion, not info.

So where should I put all my fans?
That's part of system building. You might as well ask how you should do cable management, opinions will vary.

Do what works best for your system. Stop paying close attention to what other people say is "best" (like me) for individual parts, cuz they don't have your case/mobo/HSF. Do what you need, and work with what you have available. If you don't have a delicious cherry pie at the end, put it on your wish list...make a note of it for your next system.
