Problem with my 9600GT

Well, I just got an Asus EN9600GT 2 days ago to play Age of Conan.

the card worked perfectly the first day, (same could be said for Age of Conan, but that's another thread)

Next day, I try out LOTRO, after an hour of game play, the screen froze (sound still works), and the only way out is hard reset. I don't think it is a temperature issue since it is running stock and i can play the game after the reboot for 30 minutes or more.

I was going to blame LOTRO, but it is happening with Conan today. random lock up that can only be resolved with hard reset.

update to the latest driver didn't help

game crashes regardless of what setting (high, medium, low) and sometimes is within minutes after running the game, other times (rarely) 30+ minutes.

i'm getting ready to chuck this thing out of the window.... and go back to my back up cheapo 8500gt that works. anyone having the same issue?

looks like it is a common problem with 9600 GT:

I'm running on vista ultimate 64,
screen lock up in AOC (all settings), LOTRO (both dx9c and dx10) and once while i was looking at the temperature setting in windows.

It could be, but doesn't have to be a temperature issue in order to be unstable. You can be running cool yet still unstable.

You should test it using ATI Tool's artifact checking, which also monitors temperature, to sort out whether this is a general 3D issue or a game-specific issue.

I don't remember the details, but I believe using the 9600GT on an nVidia chipset motherboard allows the video driver to automatically overclock the PCI-E bus. This might have a negative effect on system stability. Don't quote me on that, though.

Well, I dont know how many are jumping on the RMA bandwagon, however I saw a couple of users on the nvidia forums trying to run the card with 18a PSU's...WTF
