When I woke up this morning I noticed that Windows 2000 was showing a blue screen. I rebooted the computer and heard my hard drive screeching, also the it won't show up in the BIOS. I restart the computer several more times and finally it shows backup in the BIOS. I then immmedialty run the IBM Drive Fitness Test. I ran all the test (Basic, and Advanced) and it PASSED. It also boots up normal now, and runs fine. What should I do?? I really want to RMA to IBM but they probably won't take it in now since it's working fine, but I just know this drive is gonna die SOON.

All you can do is just BACK-UP everything important from the drive and keep your fingers crossed. I have exactly the same drive and a week or so ago mine made an odd noise (its about 8 months old). I backed up everything and ran scandisk, defrag and the IBM Fitness Test several times (no errors) and it and been absolutely fine since. I might even be able to put it down to just a bit of bad data that it had trouble reading! Who knows?

Ask IBM if they will take it now. Like MCS said, backup everything.

I too have this drive and about a month ago I started having problems. It became much louder (probably twice as loud as before) and it now sporatically runs/doesn't run. I had gotten an RMA from them, but was afraid to send it back as it still passes all the "tests". :|

I've recently heard that there are many problems with this particular drive and I'm trying to gather more information now. I think I'll try to get another RMA and send it back anyway. You should do the same since when I got my first RMA, I told them the drive was OK (except for the noise) and they aggreed to take it back.

Most importantly, back up everything at the first opportunity.

Good luck,
