For some reason my 3Com 3c905C-TX nic will not get an IP from my router. I have another PC hooked up to this router via DHCP using a Netgear NIC and it works fine on my DSL. But for some reason my 3Com doesn't want to play nicely. I've gotten it to get an IP occasionally but when I shut the computer off, the IP goes with it and can't get a new one.
I've typed "ipconfig /release" and it says no IP has been assigned or something. Then, "ipconfig /renew" and it gives me an error saying to diconnect the NIC or reboot the machine, neither of which helps. I've downloaded the latest drivers from the net to no avail.
I also noticed that the lights on my router stay on for the port this NIC is plugged into even when the computer is off. Only when I unplug the PC does it go away.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this happens? BTW I'm running Win 2K SP2 connected to an SMC Barricade 7004ABR->Fujitsu DSL modem->Verizon.
