Ages ago my ball mouse kept on freezing and not working, I thought it was just old so I bought an optical one to replace it, just recently the same thing starting occuring again. I had to reinstall XP for another problem I had so I thought that would fix this problem as well but it didn't.
The mouse is USB and is plugged into the PS/2 port via an adaptor so I tried using it in a USB port to see if it worked properly, but it doesn't. Every time it freezes, the red light on the mouse goes off and Windows makes its ''hardware disconnected'' and then ''hardware connected'' sound effects.
Is this caused by some kind of conflict of some virus or spyware? I would have thought that any malicious programs would have gone after an XP reinstall.
My keyboard occasionally freezes as well.
I am running XP Home w/SP2
I got this message once
''The ring buffer that stores incoming mouse data has overflowed''
