problem with motherboard sound

I have a MSI k7n2 with nvidia nforce2 and the sound is giving me this crackling sound, I remember this happened with my epox 8rda+ one time and all I did was go into device manager and change the computer device to the long acpi all spelled out and everything and it worked that time but is not working now to fix the problem with this motherboard. please help, thanks!

Do you get the crackling with just headphones (no amp) plugged into the speaker jack?

Have you updated the driver for the board?
The most recent update was 5 days ago, with
one of the updates changing the GART driver.
