Problem with motherboard or mouse ?

So, every few minutes, the mouse stops responding (USB), and I look and the light is out. I remove it from the USB port and plug it right back in, and the light comes back on. Mouse ? or motherboard ? When I say light, if you turn the mouse over, you see the laser or whatever light that makes the mouse work.

are you sure its not a battery saver feature? what model/brand is it? i would guess that its a defective mouse. Had a steel series rival 3 wireless do the same thing but it was only after a restart.

Its a cheap wired. Today it worked fine for 3 hours, then became problematic again. I have a new mouse coming tomorrow.

It's difficult to determine whether the problem is with the motherboard or the mouse without additional information. To diagnose the issue, you could try using a different mouse with the same motherboard or try using the same mouse with a different motherboard to isolate the problem. Additionally, checking for any driver or firmware updates for the mouse or motherboard could potentially resolve any issues.
Its windows XP. The new mouse fixed it.
