Problem with motherboard and CPU

I recently installed an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPU on my ASUS A7V333 motherboard as an upgrade. When I booted up the PC, it kept having memory errors and just wouldn't work. The BIOS is fully up to date for the CPU's support yet nothing gives. I even reinstalled the previous CPU I had for the A7V333 and it STILL reports memory errors. Any help as to what the problem could be?

Did you check the FSB and memory bus speeds? The defaults may not be right for your setup.

The FSB and memory settings are all what they should be. I'm using DDR266, btw. I keep getting "System failed memory test" no matter what I try. Even with the previous CPU, the errors now persist.

Try clearing the bios and starting over.
Make sure your memory setting is by SPD.
If that does not work your ram may have gone south.
The xp 2500 front buss speed is 333.
Your memory is 266. it's possible that when you installed the 2500
your memory got bumped up to 333 and got cooked.
