When you say not working do you mean you've been into Control Panel->Models and done the modem diagnostic test there - what error is reported?

Ideally you want to install an internal modem on COM3 or COM4 (COM1 and COM2 are used for external devices). When you install it do you get the option where to install it to? Check if there are any jumpers on the modem to change (I don't think the more recent modems do).

Finally go into Device Manager (Control Panel->System->Device Manager), take a look there under modems and under Ports (COM and LPT). Is a modem already installed on your system? Please list what devices are listed under these two branches, it may help solve your problem.

Yes Com1 and Com2 are used for external devices. But if you're not using
them, for heavens sake, disable them in the BIOS. It frees IRQs and modems
just love being installed on Com2!!!!
I'd at least disable Com2 in the BIOS and reattempt to install the modem then.....

actually it doesnt report any errors when i run the modem diagnostics
when i install it with the modem installation disk it gives me to COM ports COM1 or COM5

i tried them both and it still doesnt work

in the BIOS should i disable the AC97 modem??

This is probably a really, really long shot, but when I used to do Tech Support for Fujitsu laptop computers, this was a common problem on one particular line of notebooks. It was a result of a conflict between IrDA settings and the modem. I do not know if that board has a header for IrDA, but if it does, you might check the BIOS to make sure that is disabled (unless you are using it, of course). Like I said, it's prolly a long shot, but I figured I would throw it out there anyway.

Good luck to you! 🙂
