problem with mixed configurations (2gb + 1gb DOES NOT WORK)

Hi

I have an Acer 5570Z laptop

I recently purchased a 2gb 667 stick ram

I already have a 1gb 533 in there

My question is that when i add the 2gb 667 + 1gb 533, my laptop wont boot

when I leave the 2gb alone in there, it boots
when i leave the 1gb alone in there, it boots

why cant i mixed them together? (I assumed that u can downclock a 667 to 533)

According to the specifications listed by Acer here your laptop maxes out at 2 gb of ram.

Laptops are a ah heck. My guess is you need to update the bios to see the full 3 GB.

Having 2 GB and a 1GB stick is like making your nb run down the street with a 50 lb weight in one arm and a 100 lb weight in one arm however. It won't ever play fully nice.

Does the faster stick have SPD settings for the slower speed?

You will need to EXACTLY match the modules on most boards for them to be stable in dual channel. This could be the source of your instability.
