I did try with both the onboard sound and the sound card, but here's the problem that I haven't yet been able to resolve: the microphone cannot be used for MSN or Team Fortress 2 (and probably many other applications that I haven't tried) but it WILL work for Sound Recorder and when I enable monitoring (play mic input through speakers) - rather perfectly, I might add.
Does anybody know why the mic might work sometimes and not for anything else? Drivers are up to date.
