I have been using the disk to disk copy utility in Maxtor's MaxBlast to copy my WD hard drive to my Maxtor hard drive. These are complete disk to disk copies. I've done this about 8 or 10 times previously with no problems. Lately, when I try this, MaxBlast says there is an unknown file system on the WD and says it cannot copy as a result. The Maxtor drive properly shows as ntfs. I've tried this with WD's data lifeguard utility as well (which is obviously the same tool) with the same result. Both drives are ntfs. In "My Computer", properties for the hard drives show both drives as ntfs. Why, then, do the Maxtor & WD copy tools now show the WD as "unknown file system"?
The drives are both 80G 7200 rpm ntfs, with the WD as boot drive. Other specs are:
Windows XP, with all updates including sp1 and sp2
p4 3.0 Northwood at 3300
Ps4800d-e mobo
2 x 512 Corsair xms ll 3200 at spd
The computer works perfectly.
More info available as needed. Many thanks.
