Problem with mapped network drives

I am on the university network which gives students access to 3 mapped drives. My problem is that whenever I use an application (such as word) that allows me to save on the network drives, my computer will hang for an eternity when I click on the arrow to bring down the menus in the open in and save to dialog boxes. This also happens in windows explorer when I click on the plus sign to expand My Computer. Task manager will show the program as not responding, but if I wait long enough, it will come up. I have tried several of my friends computers running winME and none of them have shown this problem, so I don't think it is network congestion. The problem didn't seem to come up until I upgraded from a 98/2k dual boot to win2k only.

I used to have a similar problem as you but that's when I don't have any mapped drives and only shared folders. Once I mapped drives to the shared folders clicking on the plus sign and arrow to bring down the box is much faster. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
