I have a Core 2 Duo Macbook and I'm having a problem with the back light on the screen.

Sometimes it won't turn on when the screen is at a particular angle. The screen itself is on and you can see it very faintly. but no back light.. I have to close the lid slightly and the back light will come on. If I then slowly open it again I can usually get the backlight to stay on. Other times I need to rock the screen back and forth slowly until I get it all the way open.

Unfortunately I do not have Applecare on it so taking it to the Apple store is not really an option.

It seems to me that the cause could be a loose connection of some sort, so I'm going to open it up and see if I can find anything.

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this sort of issue?

Sounds like the cable is being pinched in the hinge or something is loose. If your out of warranty, I would just open it up and check. New inverter cables run about $30.

Thanks.. I'm running to Lowes after work to pick up a new set of micro screwdrivers.
Hopefully it's just a loose connection and a quick fix.
