Problem with Laptop LCD

my Vaio PCG 818's LCD seems to be going crazy.

It works fine about 40% of the time. The other 60%, the display just sweeps top to bottom across the screen and it's offset a few inches to the right.

It seems like it is running at a slower frequency than it should, the image is squished, and the image starts about 2 inches from the right border of the LCD. The left border is fine.

Anyone know what is going on here? Any fixes? And ideas?

A friend told me something like this before with his Sony laptop and found a loose wire connector for the display. You might want to check with the dealer before you try doing this since it requires opening the unit.
