I recently got a Toshiba Satellite 5205-s705 notebook from a friend. The installation of Windows Media Center seemed to be corrupt so I downloaded an iso, burned it, and used it to install it fresh.
The problem is after it got to the gui windows install part I got a cyclical redundancy check. I figured this wasn't too big a deal since it is burned media, but after trying this a few times it seems that the drive itself doesn't read. Now it gets to windows gui install and the drive light flashes a bit, sometimes the cd read icon comes up in place of the mouse cursor, and then it tells me to put the disc in. When I try to boot from a disc (any bootable disc, including authentic ones of xp pro) the monitor goes black after post with just one blinking "_" in the top left corner. It stays there for a little while then tries to boot from the hard drive. It seems like with that screen it is trying to load off the cd, but can't access the files or something.
I have taken the drive out and put it back in but the problem persists. I should note that the laptop doesn't have a floppy, and the laptop cd-roms from other laptops don't fit in the bay. Also There essentially is no BIOS..just able to pick boot sequence. What can I do?
