Problem With Internet

Not sure if this is the right place, I think it may be a problem with my internal wireless card.

Whenever I try to get on a web page I get sometimes get the "Cannot Find Server" script. These are pages that I am able to access at campus but cannot access at home on my laptop. Any clue what the problem is? I have heard that maybe I need to update my wireless card.

Any Help?

Thanks
S Freud

When you get the page cannot be displayed message, what is the signal strength reported by your wifi card? If it's low or poor that would be the reason most likely. However if it's excellent or very good all the time, then could be a faulty card or internet explorer problems. Try using Firefox or Opera to see if there is any change. If not, try a pcmcia wifi card and see if it helps.

Is it always the same sites you cannot access from home?

And can you ever get to these sites from home? (i.e. is this problem intermittent and random?)

Like Daveybrat said, I would download Firefox and try to use that and see if you can get to the sites using that.

Thanks

Take your modem and put it in your recycling bin. When the guy comes on recycle day, he'll fix it for you. 🙂 He probably meant power cycle.

I'm not sure what a "power cycle" is but should I try to update my internal wireless card? Do you think that would work at all?

unplug your modem.

wait a few minutes and plug it back in.

We usually do that when the internet crashes, its kind of a weird situation. Before I could get on sites like bbzzd.com, my school site, and some others. Now I can't access those sites, I just get the "page can not be displayed" message, sometimes sites will time out on me too and I have to refresh.

i am having a similar issue as to what you just described. (see my thread).

you have full internet access, besides these pages you cannot acces, correct?

here is the weird thing. about three years ago, i was using a linksys wireless router and a linksys modem. i had this issue. there were about 10 site that i could not acces. avon.com, sams club.com, homedepot.com, stuff like that. called comcast and they blamed linksys. called linksys and they blemed comcast. called comcast again and they finally told me.. well, i dont remember exactly what they told me. it had something to do with ip address and info getting stuck in the router/modem. they had me completely unplug them, wait a few mintues and plug them back in. it cleared whatever was blocking those sites and all was well,.

for me... on my other thread, it was just one site i could not access. www.pedigree.com. so, i came here to ask about it. now there is another site that i have been on and off all day that will not allow me access. someone just suggest that i do what i told you to do above.

hahaha... go figure.
🙂

Thanks for all the help Karenmarie, I don't know if that would solve the problem. What you described as your previous problem sounds exactly like my problem now, it was just a few sites at first and the number seems to be growing.
