problem with Internet Explorer

sorry if this isnt strictly an OS question, but since I figured IE is part of windows2k, figured i'd post here. I've been having a problem with IE today. Any page I try to open up, comes up with an error - "The page cannot be displayed" at the top and a dns error on the bottom. I tried uninstalling IE5.5 but it didnt help. I've rebooted also. I was going to reinstall windows2k, but has anyone had this error before?

There are many reasons this could happen.

Have you checked you are connected to the Internet okay?
Have you set up your connection settings / LAN settings okay?

Try removing all DNS settings from your Network Properties on the TCP/IP -> Dial Up Adapter, and in Dial Up Networking connection properties.

Try to find a connection that does work, maybe at a friend's house or at the local school/library. Browse to your ISP's home page and try to find their recommended settings. Print them out.

Once home again make sure all your settings are as detailed in the setup guide.

yes, i've checked my internet settings, they are ok. I can use the web on netscape, get on irc, use ftp, etc. It happened all of a sudden. I'll look into norton utilities. Also, I have a cable modem for my isp (Optimum Online).
