When i create a new Internet connection from the icon "Network and dialup connections",
although the connection is present when i right click in the internet explorer icon and choose
"connections", there is no icon in "network and dialup connections" for the specific connection in
the control panel! Also when i conect to the internet from internet explorer (i have selected " always
dial my default connection") there is no icon in the taskbar that verifies my connection even if i
select it from the option "show an icon on taskbar". I have scanned my computer for viruses but
it is clean. Any help?

When in doubt with Microsoft, reinstall. It sounds like some files may be corrupt somewhere. Windows 2000 is a great OS for networking and modem connections. You shouldn't be having those 'funny' kinds of problems. Good luck.

Reinstalling Windows you mean by booting from cd and just erasing the directory winnt when i am asked to? I don't know if by doing this i will loose my lan settings and other things.

erasing your WINNT directory will mean you lose everything, you might as well repartition and format if you do that...you can try choosing the repair option when you boot up with your cd...see if that fixes your problems..if you do that you keep your lan settings.
