The past week or so, I've noticed that my mouse (Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0) has been exhibiting strange behavior. Upon closer inspection, I've found that it is randomly ending a click and drag prematurely, and then registering another click, despite the fact that I have depressed the button the whole time.
Most of the time, however, the problem occurs when I let go of the mouse button. When I click and drag to select files, for example, upon letting go of the mouse, a click is registered on the item the cursor is currently over, so it basically cancels the selection and attempts to rename that file.
First, I tried rebooting. It didn't work.
Then, I tried installing new drivers. It also did not work.
The last thing I tried was turning the PC off, moving the mouse to another USB port, and then turning the PC back on. No dice.
To completely rule out a driver/OS problem, I unplugged it and replaced it with an old Logitech optical mouse. Despite much clicking and dragging, I could not replicate the problem with the Logitech mouse.
At first, I thought that the left button inside the mouse may have become worn down because I've had the mouse for about five years, but the problem also occurs when I use the right mouse button, which I do not use nearly as much.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be specifically? Are IMEs generally susceptible to such problems?
Thanks for reading.
