Problem with Intel D875PBZ and Corsair LL modules fixed?

Saw this newspost at DWPG.com a few days ago:

Intel is ready to release a new BIOS version "P04", for the Canterwood-based "Bonanza", D875PBZ.

This BIOS change should allow the board to now read SPD memory settings of 2-2-2 and so use Corsair Low Latency memories, as originally intended.

According to Intel's support page, the latest BIOS for the D875PBZ is now version "P05". So if that statement is correct, the compatibility problems with the Corsair LL modules should have been fixed by now. Can anyone confirm this?

Could it be that DWPG.com meant to say version "P05"? The site posted its update on April 28th, and Intel's version P05 is dated April 23rd. P04 had been out since April 9th (I believe).

Whatever the case, a lot of folks are wondering if this is indeed the bios update that Corsair and a couple of the review sites referred to as being the "fix" to allow Corsair's LL modules to run at their SPD. Reportedly, the bios update was supposed to be available in pretty short order. A few days ago Corsair's Ram Guy was asked directly if P05 was the update "fix" he had referred to, but unfortunately, as you can see here he sorta side-stepped the question. I'm guessing it's 'cause they haven't had time to confirm things as yet.

I guess the only way we'll know for sure is if someone tries it and lets us know.

Edit: Ooops, sorry s3ntry...just realized it was you who participated with me in that thread over at Corsair and is also the author of this thread. Oh well, hope we'll know something soon.

No prob Taz... small world we live in, huh? 🙂

Anyway, its this quote from Intel's P05 BIOS readme file that makes me wonder if this is "the one":

Added in ability to flag SPD tolerant DIMM correction in setup with a ?*? (star) after the DIMM slot description.

However, i cant really understand what that means! Does it mean the BIOS automatically adjusts the memory timings to more tolerant ones, overriding the SPD values? If thats the case, then its not exactly the fix i've been waiting for, as i was hoping they would make the memory work at its rated timings! Oh well, i guess we'll have to wait for someone to test it and give us the lowdown on what's really happening.

Hey, s3...you're right...seems the world isn't that big after all, huh? 😎

But yeah, I've been wondering exactly what that statement in Intel's release notes means too. I've searched around and can't seem to find anything (yet) that would tell if this means this is the release we're waiting for.

Hopefully it won't take too much longer before we'll know for sure.

Take care,

Not yet, been trying to, but it seems that nobody has that mobo yet. And none of the webmasters that have it for testing are giving us any update on it!

This user at the Asusboards.com forum seems to be running the Corsair 3200LL modules without problems on the D875PBZ. However his memory scores seem to be a tad lower than those at the [ H ]ard|OCP review. I asked him some details about his setup but he didnt reply yet.

I got the board, CPU, and the TwinX, it wont post at 2-2-2-6 but it will post at 2.5-3-3-7 so Intel still hasn't fixed the problem =/
