problem with ide controllers

I have a DFi AK 75-ec mobo with 768 mb ram, 900 mhz amd thunderbird processor, 40 gig Maxtor EIDE hdd running win 98 se. I formatted c:/s and when I was finished there were yellow exclamation marks next to my primary and secondary ide controllers in device manager. Any suggestions? I tried to remove and then reboot but they just came back. I'm going to try a new ribbon cable.
Thanks,
Mike

Need to install chipset drivers for your motherboard. I'm going to try to find them for you.

I can't say if it will or not. But might be a step in the right direction.

What kind of issue are you having with them? Disappearing? Or just never there? Not there when you need it to be there?

Since I formatted my hdd they haven't showed up in My computer. The only way I can access them is by choosing cd rom support in windows setup.
