Problem With IBM ThinkPad and PCMCIA cards

Hi. I recently purchaced an IBM 560x Laptop and a "Xircom RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/10+Modem 56" PCMCIA card. This problem occurs under both windows 98 SE and 2000. When I insert the card, my computer freezes, hard. No keys or mouse movements have any effect. When I remove the card, everything returns to normal. According to IBM's documentation, this laptop does support CardBus cards. Any ideas?

what bios is installed?

unrelated to problem but here's the latest video driver too

technote about xircom and windows 95....I wonder if they fixed it for 98/2000?

maybe upgrade the xircom card to latest bios/ driver here's for win2000
