Problem with IBM hard drive

I recently bought an IBM hard drive (Deskstar 60GPX) but have found that my system would not detect it when I tried to install it. I have an Atrend ATC6220 (ATA 33) motherboard, but I thought the IBM harddrive should be backwards compatible.

I'd greatly appreciate anyone's help.
