Hey guys
I have a i7 4790k and a Gigabyte B85-HD3-A motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

My problem is that when my cpu goes under stress (for example the prime95 blend torture test), my cpu downclocks to 3.7-3.8 ghz core speed and my multiplier goes down to x37-x38

http://i.imgur.com/92rk5Z5.png
however when my system is idle for example, my core speed stays at 4.0-4.4 ghz.

my temperatures are fine on my cpu, it doesnt exceed 70 degrees.
I am not sure why this is happening.
I read a previous thread and it says that I have to unpark my cores and i did do that already

this is a screenshot of hwmonitor and my resource monitor when i run prime 95 stress test.

and this is a screenshot when i am idle-

Shouldnt it go up to 4.4 ghz when i stress my cpu? why is it doing the opposite.
please help thanks! the issue is that when i am in a game and something intense happens, my cpu suddenly downclocks similarily to what happens here and my game gets laggy (dota 2)

also i tried over clocking my cpu (putting multiplier at x45 in the bios) but it only stays at 4.5 when the cpu is idle. when i turn on a stress test, it goes back down to 3.7-4.0 and my cpu only Turbo boosts on idle too.

when i run 3dmark, my physics test makes my cpu go to 3.9 ghz clock speed for example

i have all my power settings in windows on high performance and i also put minimum/max processor at 100 percent

Try check your BIOS for any settings relating to maximum power delivery.

From the looks of it, your CPU power draw haven't been over 50W.

Which version of that Gigabyte board? Actually both versions have throttle issues..

"After putting it to the test, it became apparent that the performance of that motherboard is slower as well. It is mentioned that the Rev 1.0 B85M-HD3 motherboard does throttle back the CPU and measured MOSFET temperatures around 80°C during video transcoding. Now, for revision 2.0 it takes merely 6 minutes before the board throttles the CPU back to 800MHz as MOSFET temperatures of 105 to 112°C have been reached due to the hardware differences."

Yeah cheap boards & high performance CPU's are not a match. 3 phase or 4, just won't cut it. VRM's get too hot. You get what you pay for.. Plus in his own words "i have all my power settings in windows on high performance and i also put minimum/max processor at 100 percent". He's got it cranked up all of the time, creating heat for components..

Man, that would suck, particularly because high clocked chips remove the need to OC and get an OC board. Alas, Gigabyte gets to cut corners, but not users it seems. First order of business should definetely be setting Windows to balanced, like a sane person.
Great find about the Gigabyte B85 boards, seems though the ATX board has only one revision.

@OP
Your CPU core voltage seems alright.
Can you adjust your CPU-Input voltage, set it manually to 1.9 V perhaps?
What kind of Voltage do you get for +12V anyway, maybe it's the PSU? You can find them both further down VR in (vccin) and VR out . Just a wild guess, maybe there is a way to take some load off the power delivery, or at least trow in some chassis fans.
Also do you use a graphics card or do you run off the IGP?

i have a gtx 980ti,
, wherre do i set the cpu-input voltage in the bios

[Windows Key]-type [power options]- select (*) balanced, will also change some BIOS stuff, so you should do this first.

M.I.T. - Advanced Voltage Settings, they should at least be displayed there. Also make sure EIST and C6/C7 States and all the power saving features are Enabled or Auto.

Also have you confirmed by looking in the corner of board that it is in fact rev 1.0? There seems to be quite a few different ones.

You're not gonna like this. But you just bought the wrong brand. Gigabyte have been well known for their throttling issues literally on every B85 board they have produced so far, cost-cutting here and there, everywhere. Good for them, not so good for the customer.

This one has been tested by me running 4790K without any problems. Great board, very cool running and the price is right.
