!. Put brand new, never used color cartridge in HP DJ 880c. Prints only red.

2. Take color cartridge and put it in HP DJ 1220c. Printer will not print and the cart light is blinking

3. put old 1220c cartridge in 880c and cart light blinks and no print.

4. Put brand new cart this was just in 880c and printing red 1220c and now the cart light blinks and no print.

Now, it appears that once you put a new cart in a particular model printer, it set the cart to only work in that model printer. I've searched hp's web site and can find nothing on this.

Anybody ever see this?

Also, if anybody can help with the 880c only printing red, that would be appreciatred too.

PS: I put the old 1220 cart back in the 1220c and it works perfectly. Both printers use the same model cartridge. According to the box, anyway.

I know the cartridge has never been used, but, they do have a shelf life - and sometimes dry up.

One problem at a time.
Only prints red - do a printer test, then if the other colours don't show, do a couple of cleans and then another printer test.

Don't know about compatibility of HP cartridges etc

I ran thru everything in the HP toolbox and did several cleanings and primings. If the cartridge would work in the 1220c. I'd know where the problems lies. I didn't realize you couldn't swap carts from model to model once they've been installed.

Problem with trying another cart is that if it still don't work, I'll have two new carts that are of no use to me. Guess I'll try to find someone with a 880c and borrow their cart to test.

Thanks

btw: According to the box, they both use the same color cart.

It's old as dirt. 98 or 99 I believe. But it's mechanicall perfect and prints black perfectly. The problem with the color is all there is. I'd hate to put it to pasture because of this but I really need color. :(

Its served its time. Remember - they are only designed to work for a year and a day. You got a good one.

Don't really want to scrap it for this problem. That would be such a waste.

I'm reading a thread about this very problem at fixyourownprinter.com. It's a loooooong thread. I'm at a part were several people have soaked the tip of the cart in hot water and got it working again. As I type this, the cart is in a coffe cup of hot water. Sure hope this fixes it.

OK, I soaked the cart in hot water for about 20 mins. then held it under hot running water for about a minute and lo and behold, I now have color.

This is the first time I have ever seen a clogged HP cart. I've gone for months without printing color and have never seen this.

Hope this helps someone else. :)
