hi all my 1st post on these forums, but i really need some help with the problem ive been having, i have already posted a description of it over on rage3d, i will put a copy of that here, hopefully someone may be able to help.. any ideas appriciated 🙂
Right, this is a very strange one.. goes something like this:
2 weeks ago, my pc started bluescreening.. giving inpage errors "at least thats what the bluescreen said" now according to the M/S site and various others, these errors either refer to hdd problems and/or memory problems
anyhow, after a few scan disks and a full virus scan, no virus's and it seems to be ok for a while...
now 2 weeks later, it popped up again, i replaced my 300W psu with a 400W model yesterday (of better quality), i dont think this was connected to it but could be, day after this went in, the bluescreens came back, also sometimes after about 5 mins of being in windows, alittle box popped but saying you have one minute to save ur work etc.. b4 windows is shut down, boom shutdown....
now after these bluescreens or shutdowns, the pc sometimes failed to boot giving connot find boot disk errors/not available, so i turn it off for 5 mins and then back on, and its fine..
the main problem is.. i suspected it could be the hdd, so i borrowed my housem8's spare drive, put that on, bios found it fine, installed win2k, everything was goin smooth untill i went to put the service packs on, and then it started giving exactly the same errors, to the point now, where it wont boot of either hdd.. the bios wont even detect it..
the odd thing is that i tried my cd rom on the ide channel thinking there could be a problem with that, and put the hdd on the other channel, and it found the cdrom fine, but still didnt find the hdd, eventhough 15 mins b4 it had been in my friends pc working fine, and then was fine in mine for about 10 mins...
Please someone help me
i am seriously stuck for ideas
thx for any help
edit: i have also tried reinserting the cables/ram (and cleaning the connections on the ram), also i have tried using 3 different ide cables, just in case it was one of those that was faulty.
