Hi

I am going to buy a new PC soon, the problem is just that I do not know what type of graphics-card to buy. My main usage of the computer will be music production. So there will be no 3D games played at the computer, so do I really need a G-force 3 card? Aint those cards for heavy 3D-graphics processing? Will a simple Matrox G450 or a ATI radeon Ve be enough, or will the programs go slow if I don´t have a G-force 3 card??? Do the programs that we use today really need a good graphics-card?

The other components:
Pentium 4 at 1,8
512 mb of Rambus memory
one (or two) 21" monitor(s)
three digital soundcards (PCI)

Thanks!

If you aren't playing 3D games or doing some kind of professional 3D rendering you have no need of a powerful video card.

Those will be fine for you, in fact I would say they would be better because they have high quality 2D relative to the GF.

nVidia would like you to believe that, but if you aren't gaming then you have no need for these fast cards.

Get a G450 or a radeon VE.

sounds like you don't need a top of the line graphics card. especially since you don't play games.

Matrox cards have excellent 2D and decent 3D. The G200 should be quite cheap, by now, if you can find one. Try EBay.

Even though some say Nvidia cards have bad 2d performance, all modern cards are at the limit with regards to 2D performance. Just in case you want to play a game once in a while, a Geforce 2 MX (not MX200 or MX400) will do fine. They're about $70, which is very decent.
