Problem with graphics card apps concerning V-Sync

I use a LCD monitor so I turn Vsync to "Always on" with Radlinker (for good reason, it reduces a lot of tearing). In HL2 when Vsync is on there is a lot of mouse lag, so I want to turn it off for just that game. I'll deal with the tearing I guess. But there's a bit of a problem.

I tried a few apps like Radlinker, and ATI Tray tool and I set a configuration for HL2 with Vsync as "Always off". It starts flawlessly, and the mouse lag is gone. BUT when I turn off HL2 and go back to desktop, Vsync is still turned off for some reason, and it does not turn it back on. I don't know what I'm doing incorrectly but I can't seem to find why it's not changing back. Am I doing something wrong and also are there any other apps that can do this properly?

Not sure about this, so don't believe me if you don't want to, but I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Vsync does nothing for LCD monitors because they don't refresh that way... or something... I'm gonna go to sleep now.....

lol not true... I can EASILY tell the difference between vsync on and off with my LCD... With it off it tears like a mother. With it on it looks great but your right in HL2 it iwll occassionally drop to 30FPS with it on and that IS noticibly slow. Try getting Tripple Buffering to work for HL2 is should help, though I'm not sure how easy this is with DX games.

I play a lot of 2D arcade and some PSX games on the PC and I notice when there's no V-Sync on it tears a lot to the point that it gives me a huge headache. It's all too noticeable on 2D RPGs when moving across the screen. Turning on V-Sync solves this problem, but it seems CSS doesn't like V-Sync at all. I get fine fps in the game but there is some sort of "lag" with the mouse. When I move the mouse there is about a .1 second delay, it's like playing in molasses. This also affects videos, as tearing is gone when V-Sync is on.

I have the latest drivers for mouse, and video card. Also have enabled triple buffering in desktop, but how to enable in HL2?

Like I said, I had no real basis behind it other than hearsay... and I was very tired and for some reason felt like typing. No one was around to talk to :(

There you have it though, there is a difference... once again, it's hearsay... there any chance you can post a link to some info regarding this so I can sound informed instead of ignorant next time? :D tia

I don't have any links about it. I just know from personal experience. I don't recall if tearing was the same or worse with my older CRT or if it was as bad as it is wth the LCD. I CAN try to post a screen shot with tearing and with out on my LCD. I am not sure if the shot will come out right by either taking exactly whats suppose to be there or if it will show the tear or not though. I guess I will give it a go when I get back home.
