You mentioned that she passed out after she stood up once? That used to happen very often to me and still does on occasion. What happened (in my case anyway) is after I stand up, I get tunnel vision and it just closes down to nothing and all black (sometimes it dosent get that far though and I dont fall) but at that point every muscle in my body just turns into a wet noodle. I have complete control up to that point though to sit down or brace against something. I forget exactly what causes this but it might have something to do with what your girlfriend is getting.

I used to have fainting spells, but I think it was because I was pushing myself too far and not letting my body relax enough (bicycling about 100 miles a day). I would pass out sometimes from standing up, or going up some stairs... or even just standing. If I felt it coming on (like she does)... I could just sit and recover. I never passed out on a bike or from sitting.

In other words... It may be her body telling her she needs rest?

A good physician uses a flow chart type diagnostic aid to determine the cause of syncopal episodes, could be as simple as the blood rushing to her legs when she stands up & the arterioles don't constrict quickly enough to keep the blood from pooling in her legs long enough to oxygen deprive her brain, or as complicated as a brain tumor.

Does she run or exercise regularly? There are several reasons for my asking...

Anybody else have a problem like this before? Any suggestions?

uhhhhhhhh...i'm feeling queasy again....

what is wrong with you guys? figuring out what is wrong with a person is NOT like figuring out why your sound card is busted...

the only sane advice in this forum, is to see a doctor. if your not satisfied, see another doctor until the problem is resolved.

A good physician uses a flow chart type diagnostic aid
Once all the tests are done they should know exactly what's wrong
medication she is on weakens her immune system.
problem with seeing specialists is they want to think of her problem as something they deal with when it may not be
try posting your question at http://www.healthboards.com/cgi/Ultimate.cgi these guys know their stuff

uhhhhhh...more queasy....uhhhh...

where the heck do you guys come up with this?
not a sane comment in the bunch.

911Paramedic is right on target when he said
A detailed, accurate history will be required for anybody to narrow it down.

I used to have a girlfriend with the same problem. She had seen several doctors for it, Like 911Paramedic said its probably hypertension.
My ex-girlfriend would have blood pressure problems once and awhile. Her bloodpressure would drop and the body wouldn't be able to regulate it, so show would end up passing out. It started before I had met her and she said it used to happen quite frequently, but then once the problem was diagnosed she was able to control. Knowing how it felt right before it happened and such. It only happened three or four times through the 3 years we dated. Hope everything is ok and not too serious.
