Problem with Firefox and Ctrl+F

When I hit Ctrl+F, the bar at the bottom pops up but when I put anything in it, it doesn't find it, even when I'm looking at it on the page. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Try clicking somewhere in the table/frame where you wanna seek, above the text(that is, at the top of the text if you don't know where it is).
The search function has been a long standing annoyance under Mozilla/Firefox for me, it flat out sucks.

That doesn't work, already tried, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, I don't know why it's inconsistent.

another problem with the find feature (type as you find) is... on 2 occasions between last night and just now, I would be typing something like I am right now and suddenly it would think I'm doing a find and stop-prompt me that it's not found... I click back in the editor here and start typing again... it takes the 1st letter, then thinks the 2nd-character-onward is part of a find. I had to keep doing this over and over until my message was complete. WTF ?!

I just enable the "start finding as you type" option and I never hit Ctrl-F. It used to bug me but this option makes it behave more like their default options for Linux.

Can you post a sample website and steps-to-reproduce the issue? Maybe it is a FRAME or IFRAME issue -- that is, Firefox is only searching the current frame?

Do a search for "compreg.dat" (it should be in your firefox profile folder). make a backup of it and delete the original. restart firefox (compreg.dat will be recreated). report back.
