I have win98se runnning IE 5.5. In my favorties I have 2 folders that no matter how many times I delete them the next time I open up IE they come back. The fodlers are LINKS and FROM ICQ. How can I delete these files permananetly?

Thanks,

Fabio

that i know of you cant, they are added by icq there everytime it starts up, i just stopped deleting them, check the icq properties and let me know if you stumble upon an answer.

links is an IE folder i believe, it's what you put stuff in that shows up on the link bar (for lack of a better word) at the top of the browser. i don't think you can get rid of it. the other, the only way i know of the kill is to not load icq again. it puts it in there automatically as far as i've found. i can't seem to disable it.

Mark both folders as hidden, restart, and they won't appear there. It's a bit of a hack, but sometimes that's what it takes when these programs start doing stuff behind your back.

Yea, If you delete Links, IE will just recreate it everytime you load IE. There is an article somewhere in the MSKB descrbing the issue. Just hide it.

I think this is only available with IE 5.5 under WinME but if you go into the Advanced Panel of the options there is an item on it listed something like this (don't have WinME handy right now to check): "Hide infrequently used links in Favorites". If you turn that on, then after awhile of not using links they'll be "pushed" off your favorites list, but can easily be recalled by hitting an arrow at the bottom of your favorites list. Kinda annoying if you have alot of links you visit like once a week, but it is kinda another work around for those 2 evil folders.

EDIT: The correct name of the option is "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu"
