Problem with external usb Hard disk

I have installed windows 2000 with SP2 and i have trouble installing an ide disk in an external usb case.
In disk management under administrative tools the disk apeears as a revomavle device and i can't format it.
In device manager although under the tab disk drives i can see the model and capacity of the disk, i also get a
generic device which i think is the cause of the problem. Any help?

You first need to partition the hd using fdisk or 3rd party utility like partitionmagic. Then you'll be able to 'see' the hd in windows explorer. Hope it helps.
